l-r Anthony Clifford (Winner) & Dave Seales (R/Up)
The Griffith Snooker Tour 2 got underway at D’Arcy McGee’s Snooker Club at Spawell on Saturday 24th March. Anthony Clifford was in fine form right from the start taking his quarter final match with a 52 break along the way against Robert Rogers 2 frames to nil. Dan Carroll had a good win over the number 1 seed Gary Seales 2 nil to meet Anthony in the Semis. Dave Seales had a very close match against Larry O’Dea with Dave coming out the winner 2-1.
The number 2 seed Annette Newman beat Declan Tuohy 2 nil for a semi-final place. Anthony Clifford took the first frame with breaks of 21 and 22.
The second was scrappy but Anthony won on the pink to beat Dan 2 nil to reach the final. Dave Seales had a good 2 nil win over Annette with good play to give him a place in the final. The final went all the way to the last frame and a black ball which Anthony took to give him the cup title and most importantly ranking points towards the end prize fund.
With 6 events remaining there is still very much all to play for and a prize fund for both the tour events and the plate events rankings. Gary Seales holds the number 1 spot with 230 points closely followed by Annette Newman on 220 and Dave Seales 3rd on 200 in the Tour ranking. In the Plate ranking Robert Rogers holds the number 1 spot on 12 points with Stephen McSherry in 2nd on 10 and Larry O’Dea in 3rd.
Thanks to all the players for their support and thanks to Richie and staff of D’Arcy McGee’s for their help and providing excellent facilities on the day. Our next tour event is in the Ivy rooms Carlow on Saturday 21st April.
