Griffith Club League and Cup RUp 2016Joeys Dub Fed Cup Winners 2016

The Joey’s team of Aaron Holland, Mick Walsh and Derek Walsh took the Dublin Snooker Federation Cup title recently in a 1 frame decider against the Griffith Club team of Dave Seales, Gary Seales and Darragh Hackett.

In the semis the Griffith team had a clean sweep through the Sportslink team of Joe Lyons, Paul Harrison and Oisin Mac Fhearai.  Sportslink had a 2 frame start but just could not take frames needed to proceed further.  The Griffith team won all their frames to take the win 7-4

In the other semi final Joey’s team started well against Century City team made up of Paul Maher, Richard Maher and John Whatley, with Century City having a 4 frame start, Joey’s soon levelled the match 4-4 with wins from Aaron Holland and Mick Walsh against Paul Maher and John Whatley respectively.  However Richard Maher took his two frames against Derek Walsh to go 6-4 ahead with Century City only needing 1 frame for a place in the final and again Joey’s came back to level at 6-6, the final frame between Richard and Derek was very tense with it going down to a black ball which Derek took along the top cushion for victory and a place in the final.

The Final between Joey’s and Griffith was close, Griffith had a 2 frame start but Aaron soon made it level with his 2 nil win over Darragh, however Dave won his match 2 nil against Mick while Gary and Derek levelled theirs 1-1 to see Griffith go 5-4 ahead.

Aaron won the next frame to level at 5-5 and Dave  took a great frame against Mick to go 6-5 up but Derek soon made it 6-6 with it all going down to the final frame between Dave and Mick.  It was nip and tuck for a while but Mick soon made a good 36 break to leave Dave needing 3 snookers, Mick took on a great brown and blue to secure the frame and give Joey’s their first Cup title in the Dublin Federation Leagues.

Congratulations to Joey’s on their win and to the Griffith Club on a great performance, thanks to all the teams for their support and to Joey’s Snooker Club for hosting the Cup event.
