In group A Sandra Bryan (Ireland) topped the group without dropping a frame while it came down to a play off between Annette Newman (Ireland) and Jeong Min Park (South Korea) in which Annette won to give her 2nd place in the group, Jeong now took 3rd while Christine Carr (Ireland) finished 4th, leaving Tina Keogh (Ireland) and Faye Jameson (Ireland) qualifying as seeded players in Sunday’s knockout in the 6 Red event.

In group B we had two play off’s to determine rankings after all the group matches were completed, Ann McMahon (Ireland) and Cathy Dunne (Ireland) went head to head to see who would top their group and Cathy won to take top spot in with Ann now 2nd.  Margaret Browne (Ireland) and Laura Alves (Brazil) went head to head for 3rd spot in which Margaret won and Laura went 4th, leaving Valerie Maloney (Ireland) and Emirjeta Doda (Albania) qualifying as the seeded players for the 6 Red event.

Sunday 7th August saw the 6 Red event commence with 18 entrants and it was a great day for the Irish as Valerie Maloney and Tina Keogh won all their matches to repeat the final as of 2015 in which Valerie won, however Tina took the title this time out on a black ball finish in the final frame.  (Full report already published on this site)

The quarter finals of the main event commenced on the Sunday also with the players who got knocked out at this stage would contest the Intermediate plate event.

Sandra Bryan (Ireland) got off to a good start by winning 3-1 against Laura Alves (Brazil) for a place in the semis, Ann McMahon a 4 times RILSA Irish Champion played very well against the ever improving Jeong Min Park (South Korea) winning 3-0 to meet the 2014 Irish Champion Sandra in the semis

Annette Newman (Ireland) and Margaret Brown (Ireland) quarter final match went all the way to the final frame with great snooker from both players, however it came down to the black which Annette potted to reach the semis. on the other table Cathy Dunne ( Ireland) and Christine Carr (Ireland) was a very much a one sided affair as Cathy upped her game and with a barrage of 20+ breaks was 2-0 up in 20 minutes and she put in a 20 and 38 in the 3rd frame to close out the match and progress to the semis to meet Annette in just under 40 minutes.

Ann McMahon took great control in her match against Sandra Bryan as she knew that if she was to give Sandra any open chances that it would be close however Ann took the match 3-0 for her first International Irish Open final

A great match between two Irish players Annette Newman the 2015 RILSA Irish Champion and current number 1 and Cathy Dunne number 5 in Ireland and winner of the last 3 ranking events here.  With consistent breaks in the mid 20’s and a 31 from these players it eventually came down to the final frame and black ball which Cathy potted to her first ever International final.

The final itself was very tactical with both players playing some great safety and when potting opportunities arose both players took them on with great success.  Ann took the first frame comfortably 64-23 but Cathy pushed her all the way in the second but Ann finished the second potting blue and pink to go 2-0 up in this best of 7 final.  Ann kept up the pressure to take the third frame and went into the interval 3-0 up and only needing 1 more frame when the match resumed.

After the interval Cathy came out fighting and took the first 60-17 however the fifth frame was scrappy with both players having chances but Ann took it 65-28 and take the title of RILSA International Irish Open Champion 2016
