Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th January saw the Leinster Club Qualifiers take place in the Ivy rooms Carlow. Teams from Drogheda, Wexford, Wicklow, Kildare and Offaly were all fighting for the coveted place in the Quarters on Sunday as this time all Quarter final teams will now qualify to the All Ireland Club Championships in Killarney. It is great to see a “B” Championship being introduced as this will give more players a chance to compete on a National basis and help build up the sport for the future.

Dublin Fed Team 2014

The Griffith team of Dave Seales (Capt) Ronan Deegan, Annette Newman, Steve Patten, Anthony Clifford and Derek Walsh representing the Dublin Snooker Federation had a good tournament, even though they did not qualify to the Quarters on the Sunday, it was a great experience for all the players and they really enjoyed taking part. Their performance for the second year entering this event was good and they can only build on this. Griffith had a close match against Workmans New Ross but unfortunately lost 3-1. In their match against Potters of Drogheda they leveled at 4-4 and it was now down to Ronan Deegans match in which he won to keep the team still in with a chance. Wicklow A were in great form with players of exceptional talent, Mick Judge, Robert Murphy, Jason Watson, Keith Sheldrick and Wayne Doyle was a hard team for the other 3 teams to beat. Wicklow A won all their matches comfortably to qualify. Princess Wedding Dresses Store
Meanwhile the remaining 3 teams finished level and went to a play off. Workmans New Ross and Potters Drogheda were drawn against each other while Griffith went into the final. Potters Drogheda won a close match against the New Ross team to meet Griffith in the final. The final itself could have gone either way with a 1 frame play off, but it was not to go Griffiths way and Potters took the match 3-1. Congratulations to Wicklow A and to Potters of Drogheda on qualifying and we wish them the very best at the finals in Killarney. Congratulations to Griffith and Workmans New Ross on playing great games and we look forward to taking part next year and maybe we will have a chance of qualifying next time. Thanks to our team for their participation and showing that they can step up to the mark when pitted against great teams and they all done us proud.
