Dan spent 3 days at the Cue Zone helping Andrew Highfield and World Snooker to promote the sport. On the Friday evening a coaching seminar was held and introduced by Jason Ferguson and Chris Lovell from World Snooker. The main topic on the agenda was Snooker into Schools Initiative by World Snooker who have 12 Schools now on board with Functional Snooker for Schools programme. This is all geared towards the Educational aspect of having the sport in Schools and they hope to advance this initiative into more Schools in the future.
There are various packages available and are great value for money. Schools and Colleges that are interested in this can contact Lisa Bray on 00441773178200 or visit worldsnooker.com or wpbsa.com, or email@example.com for more information. Dan Carroll spoke about the School and College initiative in Ireland through Stars Academy Ireland and that 34 Schools here are now members and 24 full size tables are now installed in Schools around the Country along with 10 Primary Schools having fold up tables. Chris Lovell and Jason Ferguson were very impressed with our venture and are now on board with their support and help towards our venture.
Steve Davis is the player behind functional snooker in the UK and with Ken Doherty part of Stars Academy Ireland, Ken will be our player who will head our initiative by way of support and visits to Schools during the year ahead. Also in attendance at the World Championships this time is our Secretary Annette Newman and Chairman Ronan Deegan with his wife Helen, they were made very welcome by World Snooker and were given a great insight into the workings of the sport and Cue Zone over the 5 day stay in Sheffield.
Dan Carroll of Stars Academy Ireland had brief meetings with Chris Lovell and Jason Ferguson on the School initiative and they will keep in contact during the months ahead on the progress of our ventures. Plans are under way to hold International Challenge events in 2015 and we will announce details in due course.
On the Sunday we celebrated the Paul Hunter day at the Cue Zone and a great crowd of people came along and supported this. Youngsters from different areas took part in junior leagues and were presented with their prizes at Cue Zone and were given a great display of trick shots and a master class from Steve Davis. Its great to see all these young players taking up the sport and with the support and donations to the Paul Hunter Foundation all this can be done to help children with their snooker and keep them off the streets. Chris Lovell and Andrew Highfield are to be commended for their hard work and dedication towards this very important venture and also to Jason Ferguson and the team at World Snooker for their excellent efforts towards such causes and in doing so helping grow the sport at grass root level.
It was a great few days at the Cue Zone and I met so many people and had the pleasure of giving back to this great sport. I look forward to going back next year and helping out once again. Thanks to everyone at World Snooker for making our trip so welcoming and especially to Chris, Jason and Andrew. Thanks to Annette, Ronan & Helen for their support and dedication to our initiative with the Schools and Colleges.642-775
